Blackberries, cassis, dried herbs and smoked paprika on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm, velvety tannins. Focused and balanced, with a long, silky and seamless finish. Polished and classy. From organically grown grapes.

A decade ago, a vintage like this would have produced a monster at this address, which is naturally blessed with old vines and low yields, but vinification at low temperature, without any saignée, has delivered a remarkably elegant, suave 2020 Clos de Sarpe. Offering up aromas of dark berries, cherries, plums and sweet spices, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and fleshy, its deep core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. Sadly, there are only 8,000 bottles of this lovely Saint-Émilion. Best After 2025

Clos de Sarpe, France
Clos de Sarpe Winery Image
This property was initially owned by Baron du Foussat de Bogeron, then sold to Jean Beyney in 1923; whose son took over in 1950. Today this family estate is run by Jean-Guy Beyney and his wife Christine, the third generation to make wine there with passion, focus and expertise, concerned with getting the best from this noble soil in the purest of traditions.

Chateau Clos de Sarpe is also an independent estate, people-oriented, generous and altruistic, founded on respect for the land and a permanent quest for perfection for the pleasure of all who love quality wines.
