Winemaker Notes

Attractive dark ruby-red and brilliant this classic Bordeaux is explosive, intense and complex at the same time. The palate entices due by its ampleness, richness, fullness as well as by the aromatic finish on the palate. Harmonious and long, the ideal accompaniment to a game such as leg of lamb with herbs or goat’s cheeses.

A firm, lightly chewy Bdx with currant and wet-earth character. Some walnuts, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with juicy fruit and tannins and a flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

Château Les Gravettes enjoys a privileged location, the clay and limestone soils brings minerality and elegance to the wines. The family has embarked on an extensive renovation program to improve the vineyards and cultivation methods. They use slow and precise vinification methods that result in well- balanced, outstanding wines of consistent quality that continue to improve each year. The Merlot based blends exhibit a silky and luxurious quality that is round and robust with great complexity and length. Great and approachable to drink now but will also develop nicely with age. This is one of the finest values in Bordeaux, showing and excellent depth and purity.

In most of France, wines are named by their place of origin and not by the type of grape (with the exception of Alsace). Just like a red Burgundy is by law, always made of Pinot noir, a red Bordeaux is a blended wine composed mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Depending on the laws of the village from which the grapes come, the conditions of the vintage and decisions of the winemaker, the blend can be further supported by Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and in rare cases, Carmenere. So popular and repeated has this mix of grape varieties become worldwide, that the term, Bordeaux Blend, refers to a wine blended in this style, regardless of origin.
