Winemaker Notes
The 2013 Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon has a dark garnet color, masculine in character with brooding aromas of sweet tobacco, anise, black currant, clove and cedar. Flavors of dark cherry, black olive and juniper berry, combine with dense, structured tannins to power this earth-driven wine through the finish.
In 1873, Captain William Peterson came to Napa and established a pioneering winery on the Hall's St. Helena property. Throughout the 1930's and 40's, the site grew to become Napa's most important winery, producing nearly 40% of its entire vintage. The fruit for our "Eighteen Seventy-Three" hails from the rugged mountain slopes that frame Napa Valley. Power and individuality underscore this wine, a deliberate intent to commemorate the trailblazing spirit of Napa's first vintners.

Wilfred Wong of Wine.com
One of the great Cabs from an outstanding vintage, the 2013 Hall Eighteen Seventy-Three Cabernet Sauvignon excels with extraordinary red and black currant aromas and flavors. A touch of mint and other savory spices add even more nuances of charm and interest. The generous and finely structured palate are signs that it will age for a decade or more. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
As for the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 1873, this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon generally from eastern Napa Valley hillside vineyards. Multi-dimensional, with tremendous concentration and richness, this wine has a dense purple color, unctuously thick, juicy, yet well-balanced crème de cassis, blackberry and blueberry flavors, a floral component, and a long, powerful finish. This is a classic stunner from this great vintage in Napa, and while approachable now, it won't hit its prime for another 5-6 years and then evolve for 25-30 or more.

Wine Spectator
Ultrarich, layered and tightly focused on a dense core of meaty blackberry, currant, loamy earth, anise, crushed rock and graphite notes. For all the flavor and depth, this features a persistent finish that folds in smoky, toasty oak, adding an extra dimension of texture, flavor and aroma. Drink now through 2028.

Wine Enthusiast
Made from fruit grown in the eastern reaches of the Vaca Mountains, a warm place for grapes, this 100% varietal wine delivers a voluptuously smooth experience, shining in baked cherry and plum. Amid its biting tension of ripeness awaits a swath of dark chocolate and tobacco.

Hall Wines is located in Napa Valley and employs organic small-vine viticulture, precision winemaking, wild-yeast fermentation and micro-block blending to fully extract the purity and quintessence of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Their estate vineyards encompass more than 300 acres of classic Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. The Halls have a strong respect for the environment and a commitment to cutting edge technology to yield the highest quality grapes. Through meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards, Hall wines are able to express the unique and diverse character of Napa Valley's soils and climate.
One of the most prestigious wines of the world capable of great power and grace, Napa Valley Cabernet is a leading force in the world of fine, famous, collectible red wine. Today the Napa Valley and Cabernet Sauvignon are so intrinsically linked that it is difficult to discuss one without the other. But it wasn’t until the 1970s that this marriage came to light; sudden international recognition rained upon Napa with the victory of the Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars 1973 Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1976 Judgement of Paris.
Cabernet Sauvignon undoubtedly dominates Napa Valley today, covering half of the land under vine, commanding the highest prices per ton and earning the most critical acclaim. Cabernet Sauvignon’s structure, acidity, capacity to thrive in multiple environs and ability to express nuances of vintage make it perfect for Napa Valley where incredible soil and geographical diversity are found and the climate is perfect for grape growing. Within the Napa Valley lie many smaller sub-AVAs that express specific characteristics based on situation, slope and soil—as a perfect example, Rutherford’s famous dust or Stags Leap District's tart cherry flavors.
