Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

The 2019 Grenache Blanc features aromas of pear, orange blossom, and honeysuckle fill the glass. The palate is bright upon entry, with citrus flavors evolving into nectarine and honey.

Professional Ratings

  • 93

Layered aromas of crisp peach, nectarine, coconut and white flowers are leveled by notes of crushed chalk and lime pith on the nose of this bottling, which also includes 17% Picpoul Blanc and 5% Viognier. The palate is all about stony minerality at first before the riper stone-fruit and pear flavors arise, but that grippy texture lingers long.

Producing full-bodied white wines, Grenache Blanc can be unctuous and soft or floral and fresh. Some of the finest examples are terroir-driven, age-worthy wines. It is a key ingredient in white Châteauneuf-du-Pape and many white blends across southern France and NE Spain. Somm Secret—Grenache Blanc plays a key role in the vins doux naturels of Rivesaltes and a subsidiary role in those of Banyuls and Maury.
