    Somm Note

    Winemaker Notes

The nose is complex, forward and pure with hints of stone fruit, grilled almonds, Meyer lemon and toasted oak. On the palate the wine delivers the perfect balance of flavor, richness and structure. Fresh and lively, this is a Chardonnay that pairs perfectly with everything from seafood to ripe cheeses.

It took 20 years of searching to discover this magical property for Knights Bridge Vineyards - a stone's throw from the fabled Peter Michael vineyards and just north-west of Chateau Montelena. Bridging the counties of Sonoma and Napa, Knights Bridge Vineyards are located on the southern boundary of the stunning Knights Valley AVA of Sonoma County. Rising from 300 to 900 ft in elevation on the rocky slopes of the Mayacamas mountain range north of Calistoga, Knights Bridge Vineyards overlook a spectacular display of rolling hills, steep mountains and gentle valleys.

A committed partnership of friends, family and community has come together to form Knights Bridge Winery & Vineyards. They bring their considerable resources and talents to this venture, where they have created a solid foundation for the future.

Knights Bridge was founded by friends who are united in their quest for excellence, their deep respect for nature and their abiding love of wine and food. One of the most popular and versatile white wine grapes, Chardonnay offers a wide range of flavors and styles depending on where it is grown and how it is made. While it tends to flourish in most environments, Chardonnay from its Burgundian homeland produces some of the most remarkable and longest lived examples. California produces both oaky, buttery styles and leaner, European-inspired wines. Somm Secret—The Burgundian subregion of Chablis, while typically using older oak barrels, produces a bright style similar to the unoaked style. Anyone who doesn't like oaky Chardonnay would likely enjoy Chablis.

A small and picturesque valley separating Napa Valley on its south border and Alexander Valley to its north, Knights Valley excels in similar varieties as the two aforementioned appellations, namely red Bordeaux varieties and blends, as well as Sauvignon blanc. Originally established by Beringer Vineyards, today several outstanding producers claim acreage here. The circadian cooling effects of the nearby Pacific Ocean create a nighttime respite for vineyards during the hot growing season.
