Somm Note

Winemaker Notes

Loads of rich flavors yet with a sense of elegance and finesse, with layers of ripe, spicy, apple, pear and buttery notes, finishing with lively, well-integrated acidity and a burst of flavor on the aftertaste.

For this vintage of Overlook, our winemaker blended over thirty-five separate lots of carefully slected grapes from vineyards in two of California's finest coastal appellations: 78% from Sonoma Valley and 22% from Monterey's cool Salinas Valley.

Overlook is a wine that is more than the sum of its parts due to the synergy of blending. All of the individual lots were barrel fermented in French Oak (25% new), using indigenous yeast and complete malo-lactic fermentation, aged sur lie for 9 months and bottled without filtration, giving the wine a well-proportioned richness and finesse that has been the signature of our handcrafted Overlook wine.

Landmark Vineyards Winery Image
Landmark Vineyards was founded in 1974 in Windsor, California. In 1989, Damaris Deere Ford, became sole proprietor and relocated the winery to Sonoma Valley. Ford is a descendant of John Deere, founder of the world's largest tractor manufacturer. Landmark Vineyards is located at the base of Sugarloaf Mountain in Sonoma Valley. In 1993, world-renowned consulting enologist Helen Turley was hired to work with former winemaker, Eric Stern. Landmark Vineyard's mission is "to make great wines that enhance the joy of life." Quality and flavor begin in the vineyards. In addition to the estate vineyard, Landmark sources grapes from a range of different vineyards and those selected are the finest in the highly diverse microclimates of Sonoma County's winegrowing regions.
