Winemaker Notes

Enclave is deep, dark red in color. The nose reveals red fruit such as plums and cherries, a touch of cassis, white pepper, damp earth and a hint of black fruit. It has an intriguing aromatic complexity. Elegant and well-structured on the palate with firm, yet silky tannins. Persistent in the finish. This blend has layers of flavours. The firm tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot intermingle with the softness and complexity of Carménère and the elegance of Cabernet Franc. Its blend means that Enclave can be cellared for 10 to 15 years.

Wine Enthusiast
Enclave is Ventisquero Winemaker Felipe Tosso's collaboration with John Duval from Australia. The result is a smoky, oaky Cabernet, with subtle black cherry and cassis aromas that turn more earthy with air. A layered and structured palate is home to flavors of tobacco, chocolate, berry fruits and cassis. On the finish, oak remains out front.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The vines for the 2013 Enclave Cabernet Sauvignon are planted at 700 to 1,000 meters altitude, in the banks of the alluvial terraces of the Maipo River. You can feel the freshness of the year in this wine, which also shows the typicity from the place and the variety. It has some fine-grained tannins that would welcome some powerful food. It has very good balance and all the ingredients to age effortlessly in bottle. It contains 5% each of Petit Verdot and Carmenere and 2% Cabernet Franc.

James Suckling
A firm and silky wine with currant and hints of vanilla on the nose and palate. Medium body and a clean finish. Needs a year or two to soften. Always outstanding.

Vina Ventisquero Winery Video

Ventisquero began making wine in 2000. Today, the winery is led by a young, creative team of entrepreneurs who guide us to a single purpose: creating distinctive, high quality wines. They look for innovative ways to communicate with their target audience and to market our products around the world.

Under the guidance of head winemaker Felipe Tosso, the winery was built in the Coastal Maipo Valley, where grapes for their first wines were produced. Three years later, they ventured into the Casablanca Valley and the prestigious Apalta Valley, the source today for Vina Ventisquero's premium wines.

With estate-owned vineyards in Chile's top wine producing areas – Coastal Maipo, Casablanca, Leyda and Colchagua – and extensive research to uncover the secrets of the country's unique terroir, Vina Ventisquero seeks to produce wines of the highest quality and consistency.

The Maipo Valley is Chile’s most famous wine region. Set in the country’s Central Valley, it is warm and quite dry, often necessitating the use of irrigation. Alluvial soils predominate but are supplemented with loam and clay.

The climate in Maipo is best-suited for ripe, full-bodied reds like Cabernet Sauvignon (the region’s most widely planted grape), Merlot, Syrah and Carmenère, a Bordeaux variety that has found a successful home in Chile.

White wines are also produced with great prosperity, especially near the cooler coast, include Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

A noble variety bestowed with both power and concentration, Cabernet Sauvignon enjoys success all over the globe, its best examples showing potential to age beautifully for decades. Cabernet Sauvignon flourishes in Bordeaux's Medoc where it is often blended with Merlot and smaller amounts of some combination of Cabernet Franc, Malbecand Petit Verdot. In the Napa Valley, ‘Cab’ is responsible for some of the world’s most prestigious, age-worthy and sought-after “cult” wines. Somm Secret—DNA profiling in 1997 revealed that Cabernet Sauvignon was born from a spontaneous crossing of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc in 17th century southwest France.
