Winemaker Notes

Wittmann’s entry level estate Riesling trocken is an ideal introduction to the winery’s mineral-driven, bone dry, racy style. Bright, mouthwatering aromas of white peach, fresh apricot and pink grapefruit. Serious on the palate with an almost creamy texture, the flavors lean towards lime zest, apricot and distinct saline character. 100% certified biodynamic.

Ideal pairings would be classic seafood, chicken and pork-friendly Riesling.

If somebody presented this to me as a village wine from a top producer then I'd believe them, because this has a ton of herbal and chalky character at the long finish and is one third of the total Wittmann production!

Effusive, with aromas and flavors of bergamot, cardamom and jasmine tea. Features a generous profile, but remains balanced. This is tasty right off the bat.

Riesling possesses a remarkable ability to reflect the character of wherever it is grown while still maintaining its identity. A regal variety of incredible purity and precision, this versatile grape can be just as enjoyable dry or sweet, young or old, still or sparkling and can age longer than nearly any other white variety. Somm Secret—Given how difficult it is to discern the level of sweetness in a Riesling from the label, here are some clues to find the dry ones. First, look for the world “trocken.” (“Halbtrocken” or “feinherb” mean off-dry.) Also a higher abv usually indicates a drier Riesling.

Extending south from the Rheingau region to become a valley of gently rolling hills, Rheinhessen is Germany’s largest wine region. The best Rieslings of Rheinhessen, often characterized by smoky, peach and citrus aromas, come from vines grown in the red soils of the Rheinterrasse.
